Overheard in the LeftLeaning House

Son: "Mom, one day, when I finish college, I am going to be so rich! I am going to have a huge house and an awesome car and I am going to travel and..."

Me: "There is more to life than having money, son. And, while there is nothing wrong with having money, remember that there are those less fortunate than you. There are those whose parents can't send them to college, those who are sick, who are dying, who are hungry, who won't have Christmas any year, who...."

Son: "Mom, I care. I'm compassionate. I'm the one who wants to help people. Help my friends now; help people in the future. This is who I am. What makes you think I will change if I have money? What kind of person do you think I will turn in to?"

Me (shaking head sadly): "A republican."
