Word association, think fast. What is the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the name Ike?
Me: "He sure did kick Tina's ass a lot."
So the National Hurricane Center pulls this name out and sticks it onto a storm. And he is definitely going to kick some ass.
I managed to find several not so scary I names on just one website.

Of course, Opal didn't sound scary. Neither did Frances. Frances was supposed to be a Saint.
So, my thoughts are with PissedOffPatricia and everyone on the peninsula. And I will be doing an inspection of my plywood this afternoon, just in case this asshole heads toward the panhandle.

An obvious generational thing is at work here, Lady. I didn't think of Tina Turner's husband at all. A very different person came to mind first and last, and that was the winning WW2 general and later the President, Dwight D. Eisenhower. Naturally he was mentioned a LOT in those days, and he was constantly refered to as "Ike." Have you checked in with your parents on this (provided that they're not too young)? :)
...Thinking about Ike, I thought he was a poor President, because of his indifference toward civil rights, but it's interesting to see how time and the other Presidential birds that his party, the Republicans, came up with later, each almost uniformly worse than the one before, are starting to cause Eisenhower not to look so bad after all.
Hmmm...I thought of Ike Turner too. Here's hoping he doesn't head your direction!
carl, it is definitely a generational thing. Everyone I asked over about 50 said Eisenhower, but those under 50 said Ike Turner. Even the kids my son's age said Turner.
shel, it is looking like Ike will give us a miss.
I wonder why I feel like our time is running out around here?
