Oh! Oh! Pick me! Pick me!

We had a nice family birthday celebration for BabyBoy today. Just cake and ice cream and presents and some nice family stories about the loss of BabyBoy's first tooth and what a sweetheart he was as a toddler.

Everyone left about 4pm and I sat down to watch the minutes tick off the clock until I could call the court house after 5pm. After 4 previous jury summons, it is no longer a foregone conclusion that I would be allowed to go to the court house. Each time I have recieved a summons in the past, either I have called the night before and was told not to show up, or the court sweetly called me and told me not to show up. Last time I missed the cut off by only a few numbers. So I had a little anticipatory stress. Would they at least allow me to show up tomorrow? Or would I get to go to work like normal?

Well, for the first time, I actually get to drive to the court house instead of to work. I am so excited! I know plenty of people who think jury duty is a waste of time. I know several who think it is useful, but don't necessarily want to be the one who has to serve. I WANT TO SERVE. I want to do my duty. I want to be picked. I want to be there.

Which probably means I will be excused for cause. Do you think all those law classes I took will be a reason for excusal? Do you think the fact that I was married to a police officer will be a reason? Do you think the fact that my company pays me for duty will be a reason to keep me on?

I don't know, this is the first time I have been allowed to actually grace the court house with my presence. Obviously, if I am picked to serve, I will not be blogging about it until after the end of the trial. But, after it is over, I can give you all of the juicy details.

So cross your fingers that the lawyers for both sides are smart enough to know a good thing when they see it! And cross your fingers that I spend the next several days doing my civic duty!
Because I WANT to!
