Blogger Is Working...

Check this out!
In the containers on the bottom and the side are radishes. They are also in the bottom right corner of the bed; I have some which should be big enough to pick soon. The BIG bushes in the middle are the green beans and I've put more seed right above and to the right of them. On the other side of them are the broccoli, but they can't be seen here. In the back left are the peas (there were actual tiny peas on them this morning!) and then cucumbers and squash growing to the right of the peas. There are tomatoes on the first plant in the 5 gallon bucket, but the next two have just been planted outside. Everything you see (except that first tomato plant) has been grown from seed
I am so proud.

There are 3 more tomato plants, 2 pepper plants, rosemary, and parsley outside of the picture. I have Ball freezer containers standing by for the surplus of beans and peas that I hope to have.
I am hoping to can some salsas and sauces also, but I don't want to jinx myself by buying all of the stuff already!

Looking good so far. I hope you get a chance to use the canning jars. Just remember that beans and other non acid stuff have to be pressure canned. Tomatoes you can do in a boiling water bath.
I have about 75% of my tomatoes out in the garden. Eggplant and peppers are ready when it get dry enough. All of the squash and cuke seed is in the greenhouse and just beginning to sprout. I even have 200 corn plants started in the greenhouse in an effort to keep the birds from pulling up all my corn seedlings. Maybe if I put them out big enough they will get a chance to grow and make corn for the squirrels, raccoon and deer.

My plan is to freeze the beans & peas and I am thinking we will be able to eat the squash and cucumbers as fast as they grow. But I would LOVE to can some tomatoes!

Nothing more full of promise than the early Spring garden. And the excitement returns at the same time each year! Good luck. Maybe some progress pictures?

Did you sow your seeds directly into the soil or what?

I have 5 tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets and 1 in a topsy turvy. The 2 on the far left you see here were sown from seed, but 2 buckets and the topsy turvy were store bought. And I have 2 peppers, rosemary, parsley, and oregano that were bought. Otherwise, they were sown from seed. I will post another picture in the next few days because this picture looks bare of green compared to the latest.

This IS so much fun!
